Cloud Security Operations: 24x7 Alert Triage, Containment, Posture
Cloud security operations is the round-the-clock handling of security detections from cloud accounts: triaging each alert, investigating the identity and resource involved, containing real threats and tracking posture findings to closure. NTSPL's analysts run this for AWS, Azure and Google Cloud using native detection services, with severity-based response times and monthly reports for regulators and boards.

Working Cloud Security Alerts Around the Clock
Turning on GuardDuty, Defender for Cloud or Security Command Center is a five-minute job; working the output is not. A typical estate we take over has 2,000 to 10,000 open findings, a few dozen threat detections a week and nobody assigned to them after 7 p.m. Real signals, such as access keys used from an unfamiliar ASN or a storage bucket made public at midnight, sit in the same list as low-risk configuration advice. Attackers using leaked cloud credentials typically act within hours, so a next-morning review is too late.
NTSPL splits the work into two queues. Threat detections go to a 24x7 analyst who triages within 15 minutes for high severity, enriches with identity, network and change context, and runs a pre-approved containment playbook such as disabling a key or isolating an instance. Posture findings go to a weekly remediation queue ranked by exploitability and exposure, with owners and due dates. Both feed a monthly security operations report.
When Security Findings Outpace Your Team
Signals you need Cloud Security Operations
- You have more than 1,000 open cloud security findings and no weekly remediation cadence
- High-severity threat detections after office hours are not seen until the next day
- A regulator, auditor or enterprise customer asks for evidence of 24x7 security monitoring
- A past incident involved leaked access keys or a public bucket that stayed open for days
- Your security team is one or two people who also own policy, audits and vendor reviews
When to choose something else
- You have no centralised logging or detection services enabled; a Logging and Threat Detection design engagement should come first
- You need forensic investigation and legal handling of a confirmed breach; engage a DFIR retainer, with this service handling containment and coordination
Triage, Containment and Posture Work We Run
24x7 threat triage
Analysts work detections from GuardDuty, Defender for Cloud, Security Command Center and your SIEM, with documented verdicts on every alert.
Containment playbooks
Pre-approved actions such as key deactivation, session revocation, instance isolation and bucket access block, executed within agreed authority.
Posture remediation queue
Weekly ranked list of misconfigurations with owners, fixed by your teams or by NTSPL under change control.
Tuning and suppression
Suppression rules for verified benign patterns, each documented with reason and review date.
Reporting and evidence
Monthly report of detections, response times, posture trend and open risks, mapped to RBI, SEBI CSCRF or IRDAI controls where relevant.
Detection-to-Containment Triage Workflow
Cloud Detection Triage and Automated Containment Pipeline
Native threat detections and posture findings are aggregated and split into a 24x7 threat queue and a weekly posture queue. Analysts enrich threats with identity and change context, then run approved containment playbooks and log every verdict.

Native Detection Services We Operate
We aggregate findings to a delegated security account across the AWS Organization, and EventBridge rules trigger Lambda playbooks such as deactivating an IAM access key for high-confidence credential exfiltration findings.
Sentinel analytics rules correlate Defender alerts with Entra sign-in risk, and Logic Apps playbooks revoke sessions or isolate VMs after analyst approval.
Security Command Center findings for the whole organisation flow to Google Security Operations, where SOAR playbooks disable service account keys or remove public IAM bindings.
Severity, Containment Authority and Noise Choices
Response time by severity
Triage high-severity threat detections within 15 minutes, 24x7; medium within 4 hours; low within one business day. Confirmed compromises are escalated by phone within 15 minutes of confirmation. Posture findings follow exposure: internet-facing critical misconfigurations within 48 hours, internal ones within 14 days. Write these into the contract, not just the runbook.
Who may contain without asking
Grant analysts authority to act immediately on low-disruption, high-confidence cases: deactivating a leaked access key, blocking public access on a bucket holding tagged personal data, revoking a risky user session. Require your approval for actions that stop production, such as isolating a production instance or disabling a service principal used by an application. Record this in a signed authority matrix.
Native detection vs third-party SIEM
For estates mostly in one cloud, native detection plus that cloud's SIEM, such as Sentinel or Google Security Operations, is usually enough and cheaper. Keep an existing enterprise SIEM if your SOC already uses it for on-premises sources, and forward cloud detections into it. Avoid duplicating raw log ingestion into two SIEMs; ingest cost often doubles with no detection gain.
Handling noise
Suppress only after an analyst has verified a pattern as benign at least three times, and scope each suppression to the specific principal, resource or IP range. Never suppress a whole finding type. Review every suppression rule after 90 days. A healthy steady state is under 20 analyst-handled threat alerts per 100 accounts per week.
Onboarding Accounts into Security Operations
Detection coverage check
Confirm detectors and audit logs are on in every account, subscription, project and region, including unused regions.
Backlog triage
Work through existing findings, close false positives, and rank the rest into the posture queue.
Playbooks and authority matrix
Build containment playbooks and agree with the CISO which run automatically, with approval, or never.
24x7 go-live and tuning
Analysts take the threat queue; suppressions and enrichment are tuned weekly for the first month.
What you receive
Security Operations Response Targets
| KPI | Typical target |
|---|---|
| High-severity triage time | Under 15 minutes, 24x7 |
| Leaked-credential containment time | Under 30 minutes from detection |
| Critical internet-facing posture findings open over 48 hours | Zero |
| Alerts with documented verdict | 100% |
Triage Failures to Guard Against
| Risk | How NTSPL prevents it |
|---|---|
| Automated containment breaks a production integration | Automation limited to high-confidence, low-disruption actions; production-impacting actions need named approval. |
| Detectors switched on only in Indian regions, so attacker resources elsewhere go unseen | Organisation-wide enablement in all regions plus guardrails denying unused regions. |
| Analyst access becomes a target | Just-in-time elevation, phishing-resistant MFA and session logging for every analyst action. |
Cloud security operations vs a traditional SOC: what is different?
A traditional SOC watches network and endpoint telemetry and is skilled at malware and lateral movement inside a corporate network. Cloud attacks look different: a leaked access key, a role assumed from an unusual region, a storage policy made public, a cryptominer launched in a region you never use. Investigating them needs fluency in IAM, audit logs and provider APIs, and containment means API calls rather than unplugging a laptop. Many Indian enterprises keep their existing SOC for endpoints and add cloud security operations from NTSPL, with detections forwarded to the SOC's SIEM so both teams share one case record.

Cloud Security Operations: Frequently Asked Questions
What does managed cloud security operations cost?
Pricing depends on accounts or subscriptions monitored and alert volume. For 10-40 accounts, expect roughly ₹2.5-6 lakh a month for 24x7 triage, containment and monthly reporting, excluding native detection and SIEM charges. Onboarding with backlog triage is a fixed fee.
Does this satisfy SEBI CSCRF or RBI expectations for a SOC?
It supplies the continuous monitoring, response and reporting evidence those frameworks ask for in cloud environments. SEBI's CSCRF and RBI's IT governance directions place accountability on the regulated entity, so your CISO keeps ownership and approves our authority matrix and reports.
How do you handle CERT-In reporting?
Every confirmed incident is checked against CERT-In's reportable categories, and if applicable we alert your designated point of contact immediately with a draft containing timeline, affected resources and indicators, so the report can go out within the 6-hour window. Filing remains with your organisation.
Will analysts see our personal data?
Analysts see metadata such as resource names, principals, IPs and API calls, not database contents. Where an investigation needs data access, it is approved per case and logged. This supports purpose limitation under the DPDP Act 2023. Investigation notes record what data was viewed and why.
Can you work with our existing SIEM?
Yes. We forward cloud detections and enriched cases into Splunk, QRadar, Microsoft Sentinel, Google Security Operations or a similar SIEM, and work cases there so your SOC sees the same record. We avoid duplicating raw cloud log ingestion into two platforms, which usually doubles cost without improving detection.
How is this different from a posture assessment?
An assessment is a point-in-time review of your configuration that ends with a findings report and a roadmap. Security operations is continuous: it works new detections every day and night, runs containment when something is real, and keeps the posture remediation queue moving month after month with owners and dates.
